It's 1AM. You sit down, tired, tired, defeated, staring at a computer monitor pale blue, barely penetrates the darkness that surrounds it. You're in your blog, staring wp-admin. You know you have to write a message, after all, you readers and are waiting for you. But you can not do, no matter how hard you try or how much you ruin your brain thinking of new and exciting topics to write about. Everything is stale, as the half-eaten bowl of cereal that's been sitting at his desk, who knows how long (seriously, that is out there). The weight of the world on their shoulders as they wallow in existential despair.
It need not be so, of course. It's all about how blogs under his head. If you see it as a kind of business, or a way to build your resume, or an ego boost, you're doing it wrong. This does not mean that a blog can not be all those things. It just means you need to set priorities. First, a blog has to be driven by you. Extrinsic benefits money, the satisfaction of knowing they have an audience, and so on - all those who come second, the intrinsic benefits that you get written messages. Blogging should be something that flows naturally. Like all good writing (and I hope you're aiming for a well written blog) can not be forced. You can not blog it if you are struggling against a wall of artificial expectations. You'll get writer's block. You'll lose motivation. If you can not write something, do not write at all. Reappropriate Wittgenstein, "what can not speak, pass over in silence."
