Recent commercials for the search engine Bing has people talking in jibberish because of “information overload.” Do you feel that way in your marketing efforts, learning how to market, what to do, when to do it. Perhaps you’ve read several ebooks from the guru’s and each has you running all over the place trying to get this done and get that done and tie it all together. The only problem is you feel tangled up in all those strings you need to cinch up the loose ends with.
You’re overwhelmed, aren’t you?
The really simple solution is to do what feels right and comfortable to you and doing it consistently. Unless you have a huge team working for you to do everything that works in marketing, there’s no way to get it all done alone. You need to choose one or two methods that you enjoy and will do consistently over time. That’s the key to success in anything.
Most gurus have told you to focus on list building, email marketing, newsletter marketing, article marketing, product creation, video marketing, audio marketing, social networking. The list is endless. What they fail to tell you is that they’ve reached a level of success where they can outsource much of the work it takes to run their business. They don’t really tell you “how” they got to that point though. So how did they do it?
They focused on a few things and worked those consistently. They didn’t try to do it all from the get-go.
List building is the top of the list. It’s been said that “everything you do needs to revolve around building your list.” The key is to pick a few things that points people to your website.
For this example I’m going to use blog posts and article marketing, because those are the top two ways to increase traffic. Spend a few months concentrating on those two things only. Get lots of content out there. Write several blog posts per week. Submit to article directories several times per week. Once you start seeing a good increase in traffic and those things have become second nature to you, then you can add another method. Stop trying to use ALL the methods at once.
Sit down and write out a six month plan so you can focus on one main method per month. The first month should be keeping your blog updated and getting some articles submitted to article directories.
For your second month, pick another method to concentrate on. Maybe this month you’ll send more traffic to your opt-in page instead of single blog posts on your website.
In the third month you can start working on writing guest posts for other blogs and concentrate on that for the entire month.
During the forth month switch back to blog content and article submissions. The most important thing is to make out at least a six month plan of things you will concentrate on for each month. You can’t do it all in the first month. If you’ve been trying to do that, stop it. Start from where you are right now and create a plan that YOU can work which focuses on one or two methods per month.
Not to sound cliché, but Rome was not built in a day and your online business can’t be built that way either. You need a six to twelve month plan.
