10 Useful Google Chrome Extensions for Managing Your Tabs

Image Source: http://digitalsblogs.info/tag/browsing/Is having too many tabs open in your browser as big of an issue for you as it is for me? On any given day I can easily accumulate 20+ tabs and the more that are open, the harder they are to read and the harder it is to remember what’s in each tab. Plus, having this many tabs open for a long period can really slow down your browser and hinder your productivity.

Personally like to use TooManyTabs (mentioned below) to manage my tabs, but there are quite a few useful extensions that you can use to manage your tabs and keep them under control. Let’s take a look.

TooManyTabs

TooManyTabs Chrome extension. With TooManyTabs, you can store your tabs for later use and free up the memory that they’re using. It’s a great way to prioritize and get a better view of the tabs you have open.
You might also like Tabs Saver, which also lets you save your tabs for later use and restore them when needed.

PanicButton

If you just want a break from all of those tabs you have open, click this button to hide them all at once. Your tabs will be saved as bookmarks in their own individual folder. You can then easily restore them later when needed

TabJump

A tab navigator that lets you access your most used tabs, associated tabs and closed tabs. It will highlight frequently used and related tabs to make it easier to find them. You can also lock tabs and restore close tabs.

Tab Menu

Tab Menu Chrome extension.
Tab Menu shows you all of your tabs in a vertical tabs menu, which can be accessed from the Chrome toolbar. You might also like Tab Glutton,Tab Switch Plus and Quick Tab, which all use the same concept as Tab Menu.
Tab List goes a step further and tells you how long it has been since you’ve accessed a tab; you can then close it if needed from within the vertical tabs menu.

Tab Manager

Tab Manager lets you manage your tabs and browser windows. You can display and create new tabs and windows, move tabs between windows, delete tabs, pin/unpin tabs, plus search tabs by title and URL.
Two similar extensions are Tab Organizer are Tabs Manager which both works pretty much the same way – arranging tabs within the same window and moving them to different windows.

Recent Tabs

This extension lets you cycle through your most recently used tabs using keyboard shortcuts. It works pretty much like Alt+Tab (for cycling through browser windows) except it’s for your tabs.
You might also like Revolver, a similar extension with automatic rotation through open tabs.

Tabs Plus

Tabs Plus Chrome extension.
Tabs Plus lets you easily manage and switch between tabs visually. You get large thumbnail preview of open tabs, full text search in open tabs, drag and drop sorting, multiple window management, session saving and loading.
You may also like Tab Expose which uses the same type of concept; it’s based off of the expose feature on the Mac OS.

Switch to Tab

If you have too many tabs open, this extension lets you use the omnibox to search through them. Then you can easily navigate to the one you need.

Controlled Multi-Tab Browsing

Are you addicted to opening an insane amount of tabs? Well, this extension lets you restrict the number of tabs you can open and will hopefully help you recover from this addiction. For instance, if you set it to 6 then you will not be able to have more than 6 tabs open at one time.

Visual Tabs

Visual Tabs Chrome extension.
This extension takes the visual thumbnails concept to a new level by giving you a “cover-flow style” of your tabs. You can use your mouse or keyboard to scroll through them. There are 6 backgrounds to choose from and you can further customize the display of your tabs. You can also delete tabs right from within the user interface.
