How to Transfer and Read PDF Files

Some books are available for free in PDF format. If you have a PDF file that you wish to read on your Amazon Kindle Fire, there are two ways you can transfer them over.

Using USB Connection

1. Connect the device to your computer using a USB cable. Since it doesn’t come with one, you will need to either purchase one or use one you may have from another device like your smartphone.
2. Unlock the screen and the Kindle Fire should mount to the computer and display the screen below.

3. A drive called KINDLE should now be available on your computer. Windows users can check under Computer. Mac users can check on the Desktop. Linux users shouldn’t need to ask. Open the KINDLE drive and drag your PDF files to theDocuments folder.

4. Once you’re done transferring files, tap Disconnect on the screen.
5. Select Docs from the home page.

How To Silence Notifications In Honeycomb

Have you ever tried silencing all notifications, noises, beeps and pings on your Honeycomb tablet? You can try the volume buttons all you want, but sometimes, sounds still slip through. In fact, if you’re not really paying attention to the three locations from which you can do it, chances are you’ll only be turning off some of the notifications rather then them all.

Step 1
Go to Settings.
Step 2
Select Sound.
Step 3
Select Volume. (You can also hit one of the volume buttons, then press the sound icon on the screen)
Step 4
Slide each of the three sliders all the way down
Step 5
Go to Notifications and set you ringtone to silent.
Step 6
Go to Feedback and un-check ‘Audible selection’ as well as ‘Screen lock sounds’
After that, your honeycomb tablet will be completely silent. Such odd settings and somewhat confusing for those who want things to be totally silent. One would think that disabling the volume alone would do the trick but it doesn’t. However, now you know.

Viewsonic’s ViewPhone 3 Dual-Sim Slot Android Smartphone

One more sample of Viewsonic’s latest offerings coming out of CES is the ViewPhone 3. The significant feature of this Android 2.3 smartphone will probably be its dual-SIM capability and low price point of $279 unlocked.
On all accounts, this mid-market phone showed pretty bad lag when swiping between screens or scrolling. It supposed to hit Latin American markets at said $279 later this quarter, and it will be the first Viewsonic phone there. We can only hope it won’t be the last.
I can’t say how good the sales of ViewPhones 1 and 2, I really don’t know so its a mystery how well Viewsonic’s mobile division is fairing against the Huawei’s and other lower tiered manufacturers. Maybe, there are some markets where these were doing just fine, and maybe this 3.5″ 800 MHz single-core ARM Cortex A8 based phone will be a hit there. But from a sample for this CES 2012, there’s nothing exceptional about the phone except for its dual-SIM capability. Two SIMs allow for both business and work use on the same device, and there’s HSDPA connectivity along with WiFi and Bluetooth, and that’s practically all that goes for it.

I don’t consider myself to be a really avid gamer. I played a lot of Sim City as a kid, but I also enjoyed running around outside to with my friends. And yet, there’s something nostalgic to me about gaming, which is why I am fascinated with the game apps available for my Android phone. Something about playing such amazing games on a tiny device intrigues me, which is why I’ve always got my phone out and ready to go, either by myself or head to head with others. I’ve compiled here a list of my favorite Android games of all time, though I’m sure this list could change as I discover even more games out there.
So I’m a sucker for the most popular Android game of all time! Big deal! This game is at the top of my list because it is just so good. It’s got great replay-ability, and it’s well-designed, not to mention incredibly cute! I always mean to just play one or two puzzles, but I end up getting sucked into the bird/sow drama unfolding before me.
I may not know what the words mean, but I eventually learn that they are indeed words that I’m using in this particular Scrabble-inspired game. The best part of it is that I can play with my friends at any time of day, and let the game go on as long as I like (until I win, of course). Really, though, this game isn’t about building vocabulary; it’s more about learning how to strategically place words together to take advantage of the point tiles. You can win with a smaller vocabulary!
I love this game, I think, because it reminds me so much of my days playing Sim City. The design is so simple and playful, and yet it can lead to some exciting moments. Essentially, as the air traffic controller, you trace with your finger navigational pathways for the airplanes to follow as they land, but you have to make sure they don’t crash into each other. The longer you lost, the more planes flood the sky. Whoever thought this one up is brilliant.
This game is pretty unique, I admit, but it’s extremely addictive, just like Air Control Lite. This is another finger-swiping/puzzle-solving sort of game that requires the use of your fingers and brain at the same time. Basically, you’re presented with a shape, and you have to swipe that shape to divide it into equal parts. Of course, the shapes start getting crazier, so you’re eventually performing a kind of mental gymnastics to finish the level.
All right: this is the only game I’ll pay for, I admit. It’s a game that is so well-designed and aesthetically pleasing that I don’t mind paying the few dollars to purchase it. Essentially, this game is a fast-paced side-scroller that has you creating snow for your skier to ski on and jump over. Really, it’s surreal; you have to see it for yourself. You can play it online here for free, but be sure to get it for your phone to in order to show the designer your appreciation.

Top Ways iOS Outdoes Android

10. The iTunes Media Store

9. AirPlay

8. Find My iPhone

7. A Better Support System

6. Better Battery Life and Management

5. iTunes and Tethered Syncing

4. No Crapware

3. A Bigger and Better Variety of Apps

While the iTunes App Store is never going to sell classic game console emulators and other questionable apps—and that’s a shame—there is, on average, more money to make when developing for iOS. The downside is that most apps cost a bit of money, but it’s rarely more than a couple of dollars. The upside is that developers who make money are more likely to be able to afford to spend time developing. The gold mine that is the iTunes App Store has also attracted plenty of big name game developers who’ve brought some pretty amazing titles to iOS. Sometimes a little money can go a long way, and it does with apps. iOS has some of the most elegant, polished, fun, and even useful apps. They may be a bit more restricted than Android apps, but it’s not like you can’t jailbreak if you’re looking for more.

2. A Well-Designed, Intuitive User Interface

1. Consistency

iOS is nothing if not consistent. When you pick up an iOS device, you know exactly what you’re getting. This shouldn’t come as a surprise from a company like Apple, who likes to control every aspect of their products. When it comes to receiving major feature updates, you get them on a fairly regular schedule. While there’s some update fragmentation with iOS, it’s only ever been between phones and tablets. With Android, it’s between the many, many different phones as well as fragmentation between phones and tablets. Knowing what you’re getting and that you’ll be receiving updates for at least the next two generations of devices increases the value of an iDevice long past the date of purchase.

Samsung Captivate Glide Review

With the market brimming with dual-core phones, Samsung Captivate Glide for AT&T has been targeted towards users hate typos.Images of Samsung Captivate GlideThis dual-core Android slider has been released on AT&T’s 4G network and is the only dual-core smartphone with a physical keyboard in the market. If we just move away from the keyboard, then does Captivate Glide has it in itself to take on phones such as iPhone, Galaxy S2 etc. Check out our Samsung Captivate Glide review to know what this phone has in store for you.

Samsung Captivate Glide Looks And Design

The front of Captivate Glide looks very much the same as that of Samsung Galaxy S II. Samsung has used high quality plastic in construction of the device though we would have liked a metal clad body for the phone.
The phone is pretty compact and at dimensions standing at 124 x 64 x 13 mm, the phone is very much pocketable. It weighs 147 grams, 10 grams heavier than Apple iPhone. The rear of the phone is covered in black plastic which ensures a firm grip on the phone. Overall, Captivate Glide design and looks is quite simple and plain and Samsung has stuck with the same formula which has worked for it previously.

Samsung Captivate Glide Display

Glide boasts of a large 4 inch Super AMOLED display which displays pictures of 800×480 pixels. The images displayed were quite sharp and the colors were pretty deep. The brightness of the display measured by us was higher than what we found in HTC Vivid and LG Nitro. High contrast and wide viewing angles are characteristic for all Samsung phones which have AMOLED screens and Captivate Glide is no different. The screen is made up of gorilla glass which protects the screen from scratches and smudges.
Below the screen lies the four touch sensitive buttons like other high-end Android offering from Samsung. The ambient light and proximity sensor lies above the screen. On the left side of Captivate Glide, you get a volume rocker button while the power/lock key is located on the right hand side. On the top of the screen, we get a 3.5mm audio jack along with microUSB port.

Samsung Captivate Glide Features/User Interface

Just like Galaxy S II devices, Captivate Glide runs on Samsung’s TouchWiz4.0 interface using Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread platform. Uses get 7 customizable home screens and pre-loaded resizable live widgets. One can remove the lock screen by swiping it in any direction and the home screen has plenty of tweaks. There are rectangular designs for the widgets and the application launcher has also seen a lot of improvements. It permits you to create folders inside it and the task manager offers a lot of functionality.
The dual core processor made it a delight to watch Youtube videos on the phone and it helped carrying out most of the operations quite effectively. With 8GB of internal memory, you can store a large amount of data. The memory can be increased to a mammoth 32GB.

Samsung Captivate Glide Keyboard

One of the great features of Captivate Glide is the presence of large physical QWERTY keypad which offers large keys with good amount of space. During typing we did not make any mistake and we liked the fact that there are dedicated keys for Search, Home, www. and .com. The keys are quite flat and sometimes we had to press them hard in order to get the right feedback.
Apart from the physical keyboard, Captivate Glide also features three touch-screen keyboards. The Android’s keyboard was quite tiny in portrait mode, but in landscape mode, they were quite large. Samsung’s own keyboard offered big keys in both portrait and landscape mode. The Swype keyboard offered easy admission to alternate symbols and punctuations. The haptic feedback was also very light.

Samsung Captivate Glide Apps

Most of the applications found in Captivate Glide. With the Media Hub application, you can buy or rent movies. The Social HubPictures Of Samsung Captivate Glideaggregates Twitter and Facebook updates at one place and with the All Share application, you can wirelessly share multimedia contents with DLNA compatible device. We were impressed by the Mini Diary application, which allowed users to create digital entries. Some of the other third-part apps include
  • Amazon Kindle
  • Google Talk
  • Youtube
  • YellowPages.com
Apps from AT&T include
  • myAT&T
  • Code Scanner
  • FamilyMap
  • Live TV
  • Navigator

Samsung Captivate Glide Audio

The speakers on the backside of Captivate Glide are capable of filling a small room with crisp audio. We could hear songs pretty clearly. However, the lack of bass disappointed us to some extent.

Samsung Captivate Glide Camera Quality

Samsung Captivate Glide AT&T is equipped with a 8MP auto-focus camera which shoots photos up to 3264×2448 pixels. The camera comes with a LED flash but there is nothing to protect the lens or the shutter key. The interface of the camera looks very much the same with a couple of shortcut bars on either side of the viewfinder. In terms of features, the camera offers almost everything- touch focus, geo-tagging, image stabilization, smile detection, metering mode etc. The pictures came out really good and there is plenty of details. However, we noticed that in some cases, the camera was a bit slow to react. The phone is also equipped with a front facing 1.3MP camera which is great for carrying out video conference.

Samsung Captivate Glide Video

Unfortunately the camcoder of Captivate Glide AT&T is not capable of recording full HD videos. You have to be content with 720p videos. This is quite surprising considering the fact that the phone has enough horsepower to handle full HD videos. The interface of the video camera is very much the same as that of the camera. The front camera too is capable of recording videos. The videos are quite good and offer good amount of details.

Samsung Captivate Glide Connectivity

Connectivity is quite robust with Captivate Glide. You get quad band GSM/GPRS/EDGE and tri-band 3G. Some of the other connectivity options you get with the device are

Bluetooth

The phone is equipped with Bluetooth 3.0 with High Speed which offer transfer speed up to 21Mbps.

Wi-Fi

Wireless connectivity in the device is enhanced by Wi-Fi support which includes a/b/g/n versions. Wi-Fi direct has similar technology which offers pairing of the devices at a good speed.

NFC

The phone is also NFC equipped which helps you to connect it with NFC enabled devices.
With the All share application you can stream contents to and from a TV, computer etc. Web browsing also is a great experience and the internals make it a delight to surf net on the phone. The browser supports double tap and pinch zooming.

Samsung Captivate Glide Accessories

During unboxing, we found Captivate Glide to be equipped with following accessories:
  • Samsung Captivate Glide
  • Charger
  • USB cable
  • User Manual
We were disappointed to find that there are no headphones or microSD card in the box.Download Samsung Glide Manual/User Guide.

Samsung Captivate Glide Call Quality

Photos Of Samsung Captive GlideIn our testing, the phone delivered robust call quality. We were able to hear the audio loud and clear and receivers at the other end too did not report any distortion in calls.

Samsung Captivate Glide Battery Life

The phone is equipped with a standard Li-Ion 1650 mAh battery which provides a talk time of around 8 hours.

Samsung Captivate Glide Price

Captivate Glide price in the USA is approximately $ 200 while price of Glide in India is not yet known.
As of now, if you are looking for an Android device on AT&T, then Captivate Glide is one of the best options available at your disposal. The phone offers solid performance with a bright display and great audio. The major drawback of the phone is its lack of 4G LTE support. But overall Captivate Glide is surly worth a look.
