There are hundreds of great wordpress themes on the web which kind hearted designers have released out of the goodness of their hearts. awwwww….aren’t they nice!!!
Here is a collection of dozens i found tonight when looking for good templates. Remember, please contact us if you know of any good themes you want to share with everyone else.
Im a huge fan of free themes. By downloading several themes and looking at the code you can quickly understand how the wordpress file and template system works. Not only that – it saves you designing one yourself. I think its amazing that i can register a domain, upload wordpress, install a free theme and have a website ready in under an hour and a half. Now of course, when your site grows you might want an original design for your blog but until that point free to use themes are a godsend and allow you to concentrate on content and not design. Im sure as well that there are lots of bloggers who dont have experience in web design either and these themes make their lives a helluva lot easier!
Before i go on i want to speak briefly about copyright links. When you download a free wordpress theme they will nearly always have a link back to the designer’s website in the footer. I strongly encourage everyone who downloads a free wordpress theme to leave this link intact. Whilst browsing free wordpress themes in the last few weeks i have came across several websites which are using a theme which was donated by a designer and they have just took the return link off. I disagree with this greatly.
If your not a great designer or just cant afford to get a top design for your site, its only fair to link back to the person who spent hours or more likely days coding the theme. And after all that they were kind enough to donate it to the blog community. Removing the designer’s link discourages them from releasing any more designs – at the end of the day its the same as cheating.
