How to install Android 4.0 Icecream sandwich in Samsung Galaxy devices


Even though Samsung already had announced that the official Android 4.0 update will soon be available on the Samsung Galaxy S2, we know that users still have to wait for couple of months to get the essence of official Android version 4.0. Although we have awesome custom ROM, which is basically a port from Android 4.0 AOSP code released by Google few days back and right now it is the alpha version. Although it is not so stable but those to want to have an essence of Android 4.0 before its official launch, they can definitely dare to enjoy the ICS goodness by following procedure we have produced below:

The procedure mentioned below is only for the Samsung Galaxy S and it is strongly recommended not to try on any other Android based handset. The methods applied here could be risky to your device and stored data and hence it is recommended to take the backup of your valuables before attempting the Android update. Taking backup of SMS, contacts, APNs, software, important files, documents, music, snaps and videos would save you from any loss of data while installation of Android 4.0.

Step-by-step guide:
  1. First step is to download the Android 4.0 file from here.
  2. Before proceeding to installation steps, you need to make sure to have clock work mod recovery installation on your S2. In case you do not have it, follow the below steps to get it.
2.1   Install XXKH3 using these steps.
2.2   Now root and install the ClockWorkMod using these steps.
  1. Now import the Android 4.0 files on to your device. Do remember the location where you import.
  2. Now disconnect your device from the PC and turn off your handset. Wait for few seconds and boot it into recovery mode.
  3. For brining it into recovery mode, you need to press and hold ‘Volume_UP+Home+Power’ together. This will boot your device in CWM recovery mode.

  1. Now follow the below procedure to wipe out the system, data and cache.
6.1 Go to ‘Mounts and Storage’
6.2 Now wipe out the system by selecting ‘Format/System’, press ‘Yes-Format’ on the next screen.
6.3 Similarly do it for Data and Cache.
  1. Now select the option ‘Go Back’ to return back to recovery menu.
  2. From here select ‘Install Zip from sd card’, post to this select ‘choose zip from sd card’. Now look for the Android files that you downloaded in the step 1.
  3. This will flash the required files and your device will automatically reboot into recovery mode again. You now again have to follow the step 8 and this time Android 4.0 custom ROM will install.
  4. When the installation gets finished, go back and reboot your device by selecting ‘reboot system now’
  5. You have to be patient now, as your device will take 5 to 10 min to boot up properly. On rebooting your device will be ready with the ICS updates.
