How to Root BlackBerry Playbook

The BlackBerry OS was responsible for the downfall of the device. RIM made BB OS which is not open source, even running an app on the device seems to be a big task, and it takes lots of time to develop an app that can be run on BB OS platform. But developers around the globe didn’t loose their hope and they design an app called Dingleberry which can jailbreak aka (root) Playbook.

Pre-requisite

Step 1
Download, install and run the BlackBerry desktop app. You can download it from here.
Step 2
Take a complete backup of device.
Step 3
Now, navigate to the  settings of the device and look for Screen Settings->Storage and Sharing “Turn on” functions like file sharing, Wi-Fi Sharing and disable the password protect to “OFF”.
Step 4
Move to Security option and then to development mode and scroll the slider to ON from OFF and when asks, enter the password and make a note of it.
Step 5
In the last step of Tablet settings, navigate to “About” and select Network and make a note of IP address of the network that the Playbook is using at that time.
Once done with the pre-requisite items and changes that are needed to be made with the Playbook, then you can start the root process by following this simple guide.

Root

Step 1
Unzip the Dingleberry app, which you have can download from here and double click on Dingleberry.exe to run.
Step 2
Now, enter the IP address and password of the Playbook, which you have noted in the Playbook settings.
Step 3
Once done with IP address and password, hit “Jailbreak button.
Step 4
Now, navigate to the backup folder which you have created during the Playbook settings.
Step 5
Here, Dingleberry will again create a new backup of the Playbook in the same location in the same directory.
Step 6
Now, using the BlackBerry Desktop tool restore the backup file created by Dingleberry and choose custom and make sure only the Settings is checked.
Step 7
In the last step, click on the Dingle SSH button and look whether Dingleberry app has able to create a connection to the Playbook device or not. If the blue box does then congratulation, Playbook is now rooted! And if it doesn’t then head start the above process again.

Tips when Buying Blackberry Phone

For you who want to buy a BlackBerry, I have some tips for you.
1. Ask to turn on the BlackBerry before you buy. See the PIN and IMEI by going to the menu, press options, then status. Or going to stand by page then press Alt + Shift + H. Match with the PIN and IMEI in the box. If appropriate, turn of the Blackberry and see the PIN and IMEI in the battery compartment. Everything must be the same.

2. If there is an internet connection, go to the address of the BlackBerry service (http://xxx.blackberry.com where xxx can you replace the services that you use)
Click the register new account. Trying to register on your BlackBerry IMEI and PIN. Will appear several notifications.
A. Your device has not yet been registered with the network. So cheer up, it means that the IMEI and PIN can be used to enjoy the BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS)
B. The BlackBerry is registered with another provider. Possible IMEI and PIN already registered on the service abroad. Ask a new Blackberry warranty exchange, for fear can not be used anymore.
C. Your account is already registered. Most likely the phone you get is refurbish (JB), avoid stuff like this.
D. Your Account is Suspended. Do not ever purchased. Because the PIN and IMEI have been reported as PIN and IMEI illegal, is lost, the results of Klone, or stolen.
3. To see the BlackBerry is a new item or not, could do with this tips:
Open the BlackBerry menu, select option, then the status. On this page, type B U Y R on the keyboard. Some additional data will appear. If the data usage and voice usage is still 0, then certainly it is new item. If not 0, make sure the data usage is not up to exceeded. If it is still limited to 2 to 3 kb only, it is still reasonable, the possibility for data unlocker (BlackBerry BM).
